What Might the Future of CNS Drug Development Look Like? What are the Lessons for Other Therapeutic Areas?

This talk will review the current challenges facing drug development in general and CNS drug development in particular. As current models are seen to have failed with increasing cost and decreased productivity, it is clear that the future will look different. The trends likely to become more prominent and the possible solutions that may successfully disrupt our current models will be discussed.
AUDIENCE. This program will be relevant to individuals in drug development and in medical practice. Pre-clinical drug development scientists, clinical research investigators, study coordinators, CRAs, study site directors, regulatory professionals, physicians, and others.
ABOUT THE SPEAKER. Amir Kalali, M.D. is Global Medical Therapeutic Head, CNS, at Quintiles, Inc., where he focuses on developing novel compounds for the treatment of disorders of the central nervous system. He is globally responsible for the medical and scientific aspects of development programs in psychiatry and neurology.
Dr. Kalali is active in facilitating scientific collaboration between academia, government, and pharmaceutical industry scientists. He was the Founding Chairman of the Executive Committee of the International Society for CNS Drug Development, is a member of the Executive Committee of the International Society for CNS Clinical Trials and Methodology, and has been involved in the launch of the CNS Summit.
In 2005, 2006, 2008, and 2011 PharmaVOICE magazine named Dr. Kalali as one of its 100 most inspiring leaders in the life sciences.
