About the Biomedical Sciences (BMS) program

The UCSD Biomedical Sciences Graduate Program provides a multidisciplinary approach to modern life sciences, drawing on faculty expertise from several departments and programs in the School of Medicine and affiliated institutions. First year students take a core curriculum that covers both fundamental aspects and current advances in cell and molecular biology, pharmacology, physiology, genetics, microbiology, and immunology and take laboratory rotations in preparation for selecting a thesis laboratory. Advanced training activities to enhance thesis research are provided in elective courses, journal clubs, and research-related events organized through Advanced Training Tracks, Focus Areas, or customized programs of study.

Student Spokesperons / Scholarships

The Nanotechnology Research Foundation (NRF) is seeking one young man and one young woman, ages 15-20 to become spokespersons for our organization on a volunteer basis and with the potential of securing total or partial funds towards a scholarship for a college or university of their choice.

The Spring 2009 Scholarship Challenge is NRF’s first awareness and educational campaign with a national fundraising effort as an important part of this event. Our student spokespersons will be leading the way by sharing their stories, goals and dreams, meanwhile educating and bringing awareness to other students, parents, teachers and general public.

Dr. Steve Kay (Dean of the UCSD Division of Biological Sciences and member of the National Academy of Sciences) recently gave a lecture at the UCSD Biomedical Library in which he provided a broad overview of the environmental, economic and security issues surrounding the need to generate transportation fuels from biomass in a sustainable fashion.

This lecture is now available online.

Ha, I thought that pic was yours, Sharsti. I'll make a note of it in the group info box.
