What is your major field of interest? (choose all that apply)
Biology, Biomedical Sciences
About Me:
I am a postdoctoral researcher at UCSD-Biology.
My research deals with the genetics of neurodevelopment using the fruit fly as an experimental model.
My much broader interest, however, is in the complexity of regulatory mechanisms in living systems. For decades now we have been guilty of too linear a thinking in biology, and I believe it is about time that we make peace with complexity and (for most of us) the new math and paradigms that come with it. In a way, you may say I aspire to become an old-school systems biologist, interested in the non-linearity of biological regulation.
I also think the gap between disciplines within science and, much more frightingly, between scientists and society is widening quickly. For that reason, I am also a strong advocate and active participant of projects that have to do with getting scientists to communicate with each other and the rest of society.
What is the name of your organization, school, or company?
